It has been a long time coming, but the powerhouse construction below lake James on the Catawba River is complete! I have been monitoring the river over the past couple of months, and today I was finally able to get out and float the river. While the state has restocked the river with catchable sized brown trout, the river still holds fish that made it through the down times. The river is on the rebound and from what I can tell its gonna be great!
I fished the Catawba river below Lake James with a fellow guide/friend Heath Cartee, and we boated some really good numbers. Not to mention a nice 19 inch male brown. We were floating a 1500 cfs flow which is similar to floating the South Holston on high water. Fish were caught on streamers and various attractor nymphs.
Given the Catawba Rivers current status, Appalachian Fly Guides will now be offering full day float trips. The Catawba is our home water, so we know it better than anyone!
